Green, the color of growing grass and leaves, is the base color of the Bangladesh flag.  The green symbolizes life, hope, strength, and youthfulness.  The green implies the rich vegetation and the greenery of the country and the hope placed in the youth, the next generation.  Red, the color of blood, love, heat sits in the middle of the Bangladesh flag, signifying the rising sun and the blood shed during the freedom fight in 1971 to gain independence from Pakistan.

Over the years, many non-Bangladeshis have misinterpreted the green base of Bangladesh flag as the color of Islam.  Though a major portion of Bangladesh’s population is Muslim, this interpretation is incorrect.

On December 16, 1971, the Pakistani forces surrendered which marked the end of Bangladesh Liberation War.  All over the world, Bangladeshis celebrate the day as “Bijoy Dibosh” or Victory Day.  We are celebrating the day with all natural green velvet cupcake with all natural red vanilla cream cheese frosting.

  1. wow–so pretty :-) I’m assuming they taste good–or you wouldn’t put them out there–but please tell me more about the flavor. Spinach seems an odd choice for a sweet cupcake. I am intrigued!

    • Liz – I know what you mean and you are 100% correct. I wouldn’t have posted this if I didn’t like the cupcakes. About the flavor, you can’t tell these green velvet cupcakes are made of spinach at all. People at awe when I tell them they have lots of spinach in them. Try out sometimes and you’ll be surprised how good they taste.

      Even my husband who is not a big fan of dessert or food with hidden vegetables happily gobbles few of the cupcakes. Great for kids as well :)
