Life in today’s busy, fast-paced modern world can be complicated. Just think about what many of us are responsible for on a given day – managing household duties, going to work, shopping for groceries, preparing and serving meals to our family, doing laundry, paying bills, and much more. Everyone is stretched thin and it gets thinner by the day. Despite a hectic and busy life, we all strive to eat healthy, and want to feed our family healthy meals. As a mom of a very energetic toddler, even if I want to, I cannot always be the apron-clad mom baking healthy snacks or making intricate meals from scratch everyday, each mealtime.
I am always on the mission on getting meals on the table fast. However, fast food in my book does not mean unhealthy food or compromising nutrition. That’s why I am always in the lookout for all-natural, anti-biotic free, and 100% vegetarian fed products. On top, to make my search even harder, I have to look for products that are halal, meaning foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines. Halal promotes the sacred tradition of respect for the land, fair treatment for farmers, humane treatment of livestock and clean, healthy food to eat. A combination of all these are scarce in the US market. As a result, the very first time I saw Saffron Road products at our local Whole Foods, I jumped up and down in joy. To add to my joy, I found Saffron Road offers globally inspired cuisine native to places such as Thailand, Morocco, Korea, and counting, all of which my family absolutely love.
Their product line includes sustainably-sourced, all-natural, non-GMO foods, including frozen entrees, appetizers, wraps, simmer sauces, broths, snacks, desserts and more. All products are created with the utmost commitment to authenticity, quality and taste and aim to celebrate Americans’ diverse culinary preferences. Saffron Road offers more than 50 products, which are available in 7,000+ retail stores nationwide. 29 products are vegetarian or vegan.
It’s a snap for me to make R a soup with Saffron Road’s halal broth when I am out of my homemade broth. It’s a breeze to pack Ali’s lunch when there’s no leftover dinner. I can still pack an exotic lunch such as Moroccan Lamb Stew, Chicken Pad Thai, or chicken tikka masala and fruits for his lunch. I love their hors devours and the dessert mini tarts.
What I like most is the convenience of Saffron Road’s simmering sauces. From the Moroccan Tagine to Thai Read Curry to Harissa; love them all. Makes my life easier during dinner prep time. I can get a healthy, exotic, all natural meal on the table and still spend some quality time with R as prep time is short. With the upcoming Ramadan in just two short weeks, I know I will be using Saffron Road products a lot.
Harissa, one of Saffron Road’s simmering sauces is an amazing addition to any kitchen. The roasted pepper sauce is associated with Tunisian, Libyan and Algerian food but recently also making inroads into Moroccon food. With a gentle heat and the luxurious flavor that takes center stage for harissa, it pairs well with chicken, steak, fish, stews, eggs, sandwiches, baked potatoes…Get the idea? It is a very flexible condiment to have at hand.
This egg dish with harissa spiced chickpeas is quick, easy, and full of bursting flavors. It is great on its own for a fast lunch or a perfect side to chicken or fish at dinner. A bit spicy, a little earthy with a hint of rustic tasting harissa, this is a beautifully balanced dish. If you don’t want to add the eggs, just enjoy the chickpea as warm salad with crusty bread.
