My dearest non-Muslim and Muslim blogger friends – I am personally reaching out today to invite you to participate on a virtual Iftar potluck to foster better inter-religious understanding of Ramadan in the food blog world.
If you have been following me, you know that Muslims around the world will be observing the holy month of Ramadan starting June 28 this year, in which we abstain from food and drink(including water) from sunrise to sunset. It’s a joyous time for Muslims to reflect on life and practice self-discipline. At sunset every night, Muslims around the world gather in homes and mosques together for Iftar with family and friends(Muslim and non-Muslim) to break fast. It is an honor for a Muslim to share the rites of Ramadan.
A key part of breaking fast is giving back to the community by welcoming guests into our home and share a meal. That being said, I’d have loved to host an open house and invite you to our home to break fast with us one day. Since that is not possible, I am inviting you to an online Iftar potluck. The simple act of sharing a meal together can be the foundations of a new friendship.
Food plays such an important role in cultures and traditions and my goal with this virtual potluck is to forge better understanding of Ramadan and Islam over food. If you think food can foster better inter-religious understanding, I humbly ask to give your non-Muslim readers a chance to see what a normal Muslim do during Ramadan.
My ask is to post a recipe(alcohol and pork free) on your blog as you usually do and write a little about Ramadan from your perspective on July 12th, 2014 by 10AM CST. If you have questions or want me to explain or clarify any questions about Ramadan, I will be happy to do so. I will compile the list of all the blog posts of this virtual Iftar Potluck on the Ramadan page I am launching on the first day of Ramadan.
The rules you ask? There isn’t any.
You are welcome to let your blogger friends know about this iftar potluck and ask to participate. Let your readers know that I am hosting this iftar so they can come and take a peak at the spread. Also, please RSVP no later than July 7th by accepting or declining this invitation so I know how many entries to expect.
